COVID-19 Survey Week 1

27 March, 2020

This week APC began a weekly survey in order to keep a pulse on the effect of COVID-19 on contractors and report it back to you. As we move week to week on this survey we will  track the individual sectors and the concerns and plans of businesses. In week 1 (results gathered from March 19-March 26) , stay at home orders in multiple states hit the industry pretty hard. See highlights from the survey below from week 1 below. Week 2 of the survey is now open. Even if you filled out the first survey, we ask that you fill out the survey for week 2, so we can report on the change in the market as events unfold. Take the new survey here.

Week 1: Sectors Least Affected - (Potential Sources of Work)

Government and School jobs held strongtest this week followed by restaurants, healthcare and exterior jobs.

Week 1: Sectors Most Affected

The areas that saw the steepest decline were residential and multi-family interiors followed by hotels and "other" commercial.

States Most and Least Affected

  Decrease No Change
California 95% 5%
Pennsylvania 94% 6%
Kansas 33% 67%
Alabamba   100%

This is based on the number of contractors in each state reporting decline or no change in revenue.

Biggest Shortage

Although some contractors noted long waits in paint stores or a general lack of materials, those only appeared in a few isolated incidents. Masks and PPE were reported most often.

  • Health Concerns: 21%
  • Other concerns: 26%
