Whether it’s color selection – and who doesn’t want help with that? – more product information or just finding something in the store, learning how to navigate an app can make your day more productive and maybe introduce you to new concepts before everyone else finds them! The apps below are designed for the pro painter and crew to help with communication –either with vendors, customers or each other – and product or color selection.

Benjamin Moore

The Benjamin Moore Color Portfolio™, in conjunction with the Benjamin Moore-branded ColorReader device by Datacolor, make expert-grade tools available for professionals on mobile devices. Compatible with iOS and Android, the Color Portfolio app supplements physical color tools using augmented reality that lets you access Benjamin Moore colors from wherever you are. Color Portfolio features virtual fan decks, accurate photo and video visualizers, and renderings that use innovative technology to apply Benjamin Moore color to surfaces in real time, allowing users to “try on” colors, save selections and share images instantly.

The ColorReader is connected to the Color Portfolio app so you can immediately and accurately color match interior and exterior flat surfaces and materials to more than 3,500 Benjamin Moore colors. Place the device on the desired flat surface to take a color measurement, and the app will display the three closest paint color matches.

The app is available to download free on Apple and Android mobile devices. The Benjamin Moore ColorReader (MSRP $99) and ColorReader Pro (MSRP $249) are available for purchase at select Benjamin Moore retailers and online

Datacolor’s ColorReader mobile app allows professional painters to match a client’s color inspiration to a corresponding paint color in seconds. The mobile app provides everything you and your crew need to match colors, work with fan decks and create palettes on an iPhone or Android smart phone.

The app works in tandem with the ColorReaderPRO – an ultraportable, Bluetooth® connected color selection device that provides industry-leading matching with a success rate of more than 95% on popular fan decks including Behr, Benjamin Moore, Farrow & Ball, PPG, Sherwin-Williams, Valspar, NCS, RAL and other paint brands.

Pro painters can use the app and device to help customers decide on paint color faster, identify paint colors that customers find on everyday objects and even substitute colors from your go-to brands.

Dunn-Edwards InstaColor iD is a color matching tool that allows professional painters and designers to quickly determine the color of almost any surface. The compact, handheld device is preloaded with all 1,996 colors in the brand’s Perfect Palette color system and instantly suggests the top three corresponding colors along with RGB, CMYK, Delta E and Hex colors. It’s also available as an app.

“This is a huge timesaver for pros who are helping their clients get just the right color,” said Sara McLean, color expert for Dunn-Edwards. “At the press of a button, they can determine the best color matches and then go to the fan deck and start sampling.” She points out that while InstaColor iD is highly accurate, Dunn-Edwards always recommends applying color samples to the surface being painted for viewing in various light situations.

Identify a color anywhere by pairing the tool with an app on your iOS or Android device. “It can be used on a previously painted wall or décor item such as a pillow or vase,” McLean said. “With InstaColor iD, you can find coordinating colors, build palettes, and save and share projects.” InstaColor ID is available for $89.99 in any DunnEdwards store or authorized dealer or can be ordered online.

The Mi-T-M Corporation knows the importance of putting information in its customers’ hands. “We’ve worked hand in hand with paint pros for several decades now,” said Don Holdridge, national paint division manager, “and they have been a valuable resource to us.” As a result, the company launched the Mi-T-M Mobile Pro to give you to product-specific information directly on your mobile devices.
