Amazing Staircase Transformation

The elaborate staircase took a three-person crew a week to complete.

This elegant home, located in a prestigious upscale neighborhood north of Columbus, Ohio, put the skills of the Final Touch Painting crew to the test. The homeowner wanted to update the traditional stained wood staircase railing with a more dramatic look. The crew was tasked with transitioning the stained woodwork to painted trim. The final look needed to be durable enough to withstand regular wear and tear. Moreover, the unique two-tone look would require some extra attention to details and transitions in particular.

Because the stairway is central to the home and the very first thing seen by anyone who enters, it was important to put care and quality into every phase of the project. The crew gave extra attention to details, including thorough floor protection throughout the work area. They also put systematic processes in place to ensure every area was prepped and painted to the homeowner’s exacting specifications.

Final Touch Painting was hired to upgrade traditional stained woodwork to painted trim.

The crew first applied a Stix primer to the surfaces to be painted. The white trim was topcoated with Benjamin Moore’s Advance paint in satin white. The handrail was covered with a gel stain selected by the homeowner from Restoration Hardware to meet their exacting color expectations. The project took the three-person team—Dave King, Mike Ackerman and Jeremy Dean—an entire week to complete.

This entryway got a dramatic makeover.
Careful prep at transitions was critical to the success of the two-tone look.
