Coatings install at a trade-specific high school

You might say this contractor was providing for its own future; Adam Roe Painting was on task at the newly built Swan Falls High School, a facility constructed specifically for students interested in learning a trade.

One thing all the trades learned in 2020 was how to think quickly – and safely – to keep COVID from keeping them from meeting a deadline. “Because of COVID, we had a lot of fluctuation in our schedule,” said company co-owner and safety coordinator Risa Roe. “Many trades were affected by loss of team members, and the job seemed to get behind schedule and then surge ahead. Scheduling was difficult as we were not able to keep the flow as we had planned, but due to the demands of the project, the completion date did not change.”

To keep going, they stayed in communication with the general contractor and scaled crew sizes up and down as needed. They implemented strict safety measures, which added time and expense to the entirety of “Painting 2020,” but kept the virus away from the crew. “We were able to keep our guys safe and working with the added protocols of regular disinfecting of all surfaces and equipment, mask wearing, and physical distance,” said Roe.

It was a big job, and this is only Phase One! While it’s not necessarily a “pretty” job, it’s definitely an example of great work and coordination with other trades. “We used approximately 1,850 gallons of primer, paint and dryfall, roughly 150 gallons of floor sealer, and 300 gallons of masonry sealer,” Roe counted. “There were eight colors on the inside and three on the exterior. The color scheme was devised to best represent the different trades, so our team had to stay apprised of the multiple colors of each area.” And perhaps since it’s a high school, an anti-graffiti coating figures on the exterior.

“We are proud to work with Beniton Construction to have painted a job that helps the community work force,” said Roe.
