Large interior/exterior condo project

The exterior presented the challenge of matching several different substrates.

There are a lot of people to satisfy in a condo project, so you’ve got your work cut out for you as soon as you sign that proverbial dotted line. Both the management company and the unit owners are going to want a nice looking, updated building. And why shouldn’t they? It’s home!

Central Painting wins TOP JOB for its work on the Savona East condos, a high-end development in Sherwood Park, Alberta, a suburb just east of Edmonton. Six painters spent four months while collaborating with many other trades to complete both interior and exterior painting as well as exterior custom millwork.

Each part of the job had its own obstacle to overcome. “The primary challenges came from complications involving the custom millwork,” said Jakob Graham, this Barrie, Ontario-based company’s director of marketing. “On the interior, the substrate was unprimed medium density fiberboard and the extent of details cut into the doors presented challenges for the crew. On the exterior, many of the logs were weathered and had a grey tint to them.”

A solution had to be found at the outset or there would be a lot of do-over. For the millwork, the team applied two coats of primer, then two semigloss topcoats. For the exterior they did a complete sanding of all the logs, then applied a new stain to match the exterior paint color. Ready to move in?
