This week we bring you a feel good story out of Spain.

A six-year-old little boy lost his wallet and it was returned by a good samaritan painter.

If you can think back to your own childhood – or perhaps you have kids of your own – you’ll remember how devastating it can be to learn that the world isn’t as good-hearted as your mom told you.

The boy, who moved to Spain from the U.S. in January, was walking around the port market on April 7 when his wallet went missing. The wallet contained 12 euros in coins, which translates to $12.88 dollars – a hefty chunk of change for a child.

He had been hoping to spend his hard-earned money on something sweet or a new toy. Suffice to say, he was absolutely broken-hearted when it went missing.

His mother, Allasia Lynne, took to Facebook to see if anyone had found it. Coincidentally, someone had, and they were also posting to a local group trying to find the owner.

Dave Gander is a British expat who owns a local painting company called Costa Coatings. He found the money and knew exactly what he needed to do.

“I guessed it was a kid’s and could imagine the disappointment,” Gander says.

Gander and Lynn arranged to meet up at the port to return the wallet. Her little boy was so relieved that he drew a thank you note for his hero. Perhaps the good deed will inspire him to join the painting trade himself someday.

Lynne snapped a picture of the lovely moment and posted it on Facebook, writing, “We are very thankful to Dave for his good deed and his example of integrity and kindness, what a great reminder to all of us.”

The response from the community was gushing, saying that it showed that there were “still good people in the world.”

Gander, humble as always, accepts the praise with humility. “I have enjoyed the feedback from everyone.”

However, he couldn’t help but joke that the small amount of cash made the moral choice easy.

“If it was a container with a hundred grand in it, I may have relocated.”
