The Home Depot has announced its 2022 Innovation Award winners, and as you would expect, many of the products and companies honored are relevant to the paint and construction industry. Perhaps some of these will help in your day-to-day operations! With about 40,000 products available at The Home Depot, being named the winner, or even one of the finalists, is quite an accomplishment.
“We’re thrilled with the level of home improvement innovation we continue to bring to our DIY and Pro customers, thanks to the great work of our suppliers,” said Jeff Kinnaird, executive vice president of merchandising for The Home Depot. “Whether a Pro or do-it-yourselfer, these exciting new products will help anyone get their projects done faster, easier and more efficiently.”
Below are the winners relevant to our industry; the brief product descriptions have been supplied by Home Depot.
And the winners are….
The overall winner was PPG’s Glidden Max-Flex Spray Paint, which enables users to complete spray paint projects faster on a wide range of finishes without cracking or peeling. Its revolutionary formula requires fewer spray passes than a traditional conical-shaped spray pattern and it dries within five minutes. This award made industry history! “As the first ever paint company to receive this award, it’s a great recognition from our trusted partner that our revolutionary spray paint has changed the DIY game in terms of dry time, finish and versatility,” said Jaime Irick, PPG vice president, Architectural Coatings, United States and Canada. “By reimagining an existing technology for the DIY consumer, the end result was a best-in-class spray paint that features a high-performing formula and unique dispersion design,” the company stated.
An honorable mention was given to BEHR DYNASTY® Interior Paint. This product makes painting projects easier with a guaranteed one-coat hide in over 1,000 colors that dry faster so users can get back to using their spaces quickly. It is the most stain-repellent, scuff-resistant, fast-drying, one-coat coverage paint and primer on the market.

The Werner Multi-Max Pro ladder also received an honorable mention; Werner has been awarded many times by Home Depot over the years. This ladder was designed to create a safer and more efficient jobsite. Adjusting to uneven work surfaces, the multi-position ladder has five different position settings, a safe leaning capability with a telescoping extension system, and a 375-pound duty rating.
On the construction side, third place overall was awarded to Cortex Hidden Fastening System for Decking by FastenMaster This is is a fast and easy way to build a deck with fully hidden hardware and fasteners. The sets come with a proprietary drill bit that sets the screw to the perfect depth every time in composite, cap stock and PVC decking boards.
An honorable mention was giving to Diablo (known in our industry for the SandNET™ The Ultimate Sanding Solution) for its Demon Spade Bits. These products save time and money by cutting down the number of tools needed to complete projects on nail-embedded wood and give you the speed and flexibility of a standard wood spade bit with the durability and performance of an Auger bit. Diablo has been a two-time Innovations award winner, with five appearances as a top ten finalist.
Home Depot also awards vendors for their accomplishments outside of product. Werner was awarded the Interconnected Partner of the Year for its which investment in product innovation and its ramped up e-commerce efforts in almost all facets of the interconnected business. Partner of the Year was awarded to Behr for the paint category and Milwaukee for the hardware category.
